Coastguard is back! Missed the action? You can still catch up on demand

Our hit Channel 5 documentary series Coastguard: Search and Rescue SOS returned to TV screens in April 2024 with an eagerly anticipated second series.

Viewers watched nail-biting rescues from HM Coastguard, compelling investigations and the vital work of marine surveyors as we followed all the behind-the-scenes action from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).

If you missed any of the series you can still catch up and see first-hand the lifesaving work carried out across the MCA to keep you safe on the coast and at sea.

Series 2: Episode 1

It's drama from the start when HM Coastguard is called to rescue a couple on the Cornish coast, who have been swept into a sea cave. Meanwhile on the Isle of Wight, MCA investigators probe a motor-cruiser crash. And in Llandber, Wales, a search is launched as a 999 call from 85-year-old Julia, who has been cut off by the tide and is clinging onto rocks, abruptly ends.

Series 2: Episode 2

HM Coastguard's helicopter range is tested when waves threaten to sweep away a man attempting to break the record for the longest stay on the north Atlantic islet of Rockall. Closer to home, coastguards in Cornwall launch a rope rescue down a giant hole; and in Wales a solitary dog spotted halfway down a cliff raises fears of a missing owner. In Teesside, a bulk carrier faces being detained if problems are not resolved to the satisfaction of MCA surveyor Chris.

Series two, episode three

When Storm Babet crashes into Scotland, HM Coastguard joins fellow emergency services in the battle to keep people safe. Time is of the essence for two separate medical alerts: one is a man winched from a cruise ship off the south coast, and another is a baby who’s fallen ill on Barmouth beach in Wales. Back in Scotland, MCA surveyors are called out to establish the cause of a collision between two vessels in Tarbert harbour, Loch Fyne.

Series two, episode four

The science and skill of the search plan is on show when Holyhead Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre masterminds the response to a dad who went out bait digging on the coast but is now missing. HM Coastguard is called to help inland when a walker suffers a head injury on Yr Wyddfa, also known as Mount Snowdon. And coastguard, RNLI and helicopter crews have to solve a rescue puzzle to extract a man stuck halfway up a cliff at Newquay, Cornwall.
